Tip #2: Streaks and Odds

In Cool Calls, Personal Results, Poker Bites, Poker Tips, Sick Suck Outs on May 27, 2010 at 3:18 pm

When you play poker long enough you will eventually see lots of ‘rare’ events, sometimes coming in streaks of good or bad ‘luck’, depending on the circumstances: two four of a kinds, or kk being beaten 10 times in a row type stuff.

You’ve got to be willing to bust out on a good hand because you know most of the time you will win; once calculating the odds of the the strength of your hand verses the bet and size of the pot. Not to mention the player.

This is what a bank roll is for: to take the swings. You better start getting used to it as quickly as you can.

My partner has just gone through the process of developing his game some more and it has finally taught him that this is the way the poker gods seem to want him to go. (We even happened to watch Rounders again if it wasn’t poetic enough) We turned 20 bucks in 250 in two days so not a bad start :)

Of course we lost another 100 during the week when the real sharks were out, but it’s all good tuition ;)
